Tellabs Acquired by Zhone
Cloud & AI
Bowen is pleased to announce that Tellabs has been acquired by Zhone. Bowen acted as the exclusive M&A advisor to Tellabs.
Enterprise and consumer broadband access markets are evolving as fiber, optical, and AI technologies advance, accelerating the convergence of enterprise and carrier-grade network solutions. Strategic consolidation among vendors combining complementary technology capabilities and customer relationships is reshaping the industry.
Zhone’s acquisition of the industry’s iconic brand Tellabs unites two prominent technology companies both headquartered in the Dallas tech corridor. Tellabs strengthens the Zhone / NetComm portfolio, expanding its fiber-optic broadband, fiber extension, fixed wireless, in-home Wi-Fi, and fiber LAN solutions. The Tellabs brand brings 51 years of communications technology, customer and partner relationships to Zhone, spanning hundreds of enterprises, government, and service providers.
“For nearly 25 years, Bowen has delivered deep domain expertise across cloud software, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and defense. We uniquely combine strategic perspective, operating experience, and execution to enable our clients to translate their vision into valuable outcomes,” said Charlie Vogt, Bowen Managing Director, based in Dallas. “This is our deal team’s third transaction in the first 9 months of 2026 – following the acquisitions of Actifai and SummitAI – exemplifying our track record across AI, cloud software and digital infrastructure, and our ability to execute on pure-play, carve-out and consolidation transactions.”
“The acquisition of Tellabs is a significant milestone for Zhone. Both organizations bring deep enterprise and telecommunications expertise, complementary cultures, and strong Texas roots,” said Clayton Zekelman, Chairman and CEO of Zhone Technologies. “Together, we will accelerate Zhone’s product innovation roadmap across fiber broadband and enterprise networking.”
“Tellabs has a long history of delivering mission-critical networking solutions to enterprise, government, and telecommunications customers,” said Rich Schroder, President and CEO of Tellabs. “The combination of Zhone and Tellabs advances a shared vision built on innovative technology, go-to-market capabilities, and aligned cultures.”
The Bowen transaction team was led by Managing Director Charlie Vogt, with Vice President Bo Picking and Senior Analyst Devin McGinty playing key roles in deal execution.
